SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Frey Norris Gallery announces gallery artist Ted Vasin's receipt of the prestigious Pollock-Krasner grant. Vasin is one of 185 artists selected from thousands of international applicants to receive a grant from the Pollock Krasner Foundation for the 2006-2007 fiscal year. Founded in 1985 by Abstract Expressionist and widow of Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, the Pollock Krasner Foundation annually provides millions of dollars in grants to artists with recognized skill and potential. Vasin's receipt of the competitive Pollock-Krasner grant speaks to his growing reputation and marks a new stage of productivity in his career.

Hailing from Moscow, Ted Vasin has lived in San Francisco since 1990. His activity in the San Francisco art community includes serving as the 2002/2003 Artist in Residence at the San Francisco Palace of the Legion of Honor and the De Young Art Center. Vasin is one of three San Francisco-based artists who were awarded a Pollock Krasner grant this year.

"My paintings are incredibly precise and make use of a wide variety of metallic pigments and robust colors…everything [is] designed to frustrate the viewer's ability to pin the image down and name it."

Attempting to bridge the gap between his dreams and reality, Vasin's main objective is to communicate a totally unfamiliar perspective to the viewer using his art as a unique visual language. Vasin's work utilizes computer animation software and electronic equipment to create mathematically precise art and experimental sound clips. Thus far, the costly nature of such equipment has been a limiting factor in Vasin's artistic output. This grant is an exciting opportunity that will allow Vasin to turn his larger scale visions into tangible objects and installations.

Raman Frey and Wendi Norris, co-owners of Frey Norris Gallery, believe in Ted Vasin's potential to become a significant participant in the shaping of art history and are pleased that the Pollock Krasner Foundation shares in their enthusiasm for Vasin's work.
