Pablo Atchugarry - Espacio intimo

June 21, 2007

Reception 6:00 to 9:00 pm

Since 1982, Uruguayan native Pablo Atchugarry has made his home in Lecco, Italy and fed his need to sculpt on the rich traditions of classical work in Italian Carrara marble. Studying masterpieces by artists like Michelangelo and Antonio Canova has infused Atchugarry's unique abstract idiom of folded translucent stone with a sensuality and angular modernism distinct in the current sculptural landscape.

Twenty-five years after his arrival in Italy, his home has grown to include a large studio and permanent museum and Atchugarry's marbles have become increasingly large and ambitious, the current project "Cosmic Embrace" rising almost thirty feet high and weighing approximately 56 tons. Such monuments have been installed across Latin America and Europe and his work has exhibited in dozens of museums from Buenos Aires to Seoul, Genova, Paris and Belgium.

Please join Frey Norris Gallery in welcoming Atchugarry to his first ever West Coast exhibition.
